The Perfect 72 Hours in Kennett Square

Your perfect weekend in Kennett Square

Day 1: Ease into Friday afternoon

Start your trip to Kennett Square sometime after lunch and get the lay of the land with a leisurely stroll down State Street. This area is the heartbeat of town, lined with a variety of independent shops, charming cafes and restaurants, and just enough activity to feel lively without overwhelming.

If you time it right, make your first stop Wanderlust Doughnuts before they close at 2pm. Their flavors rotate, but that’s part of the charm. You’ll find something new to try each time you visit, and it tastes like something wholly unique and local, not mass-produced. You’ll even find gluten-free and vegan options! If they have them on the menu that day, we love the lemon zest doughnut and the dark chocolate doughnut with sea salt.

If you're a bibliophile, pop over to Forage Books, an indie bookshop with something instore for all ages and interests, right next door. Be sure to check out their Neighbor Picks section, with rotating recommendations curated from Kennett Square locals!

Afterward, check in at The Francis Hotel & Suites at 3pm and take a moment to settle in. The hotel itself is part of the experience: quiet, layered with history, and intentionally designed to feel like you’ve stepped into a story rather than just a stay.

As evening sets in, walk over to Wayvine Winery’s tasting room on State Street. It’s the kind of place where you can linger over a glass, enjoy a craft cocktail, chat with the staff, and likely leave with a bottle (or two!) to take home or gift to friends and family.

For dinner, walk just a few feet up State Street to local favorite, Letty’s Tavern. It strikes the ideal balance between cozy and elevated, serving up comfort food with a refined feel. It's the perfect first-night spot on your Kennett Square itinerary, when you want something satisfying without too much fuss.

Day 2: Buckle up for an activity-filled Saturday

Start your day with a grab-and-go breakfast packed with flavor from . Though the intimate café and gourmet market is known nationally for its exclusive farm-to-table dinners, it’s also home to mouthwatering pastries and standout coffee. Local tip: the scones are a must-try! If you’re in the mood for a hot breakfast, don’t miss the breakfast burrito and the tater tots with spicy ranch dressing. For a sweet treat, don’t miss the gluten-free lemon lavender polenta cake or the beautiful French macarons.

Hop in your car and make the 10-minute drive to one of the nation’s best botanical gardens for the morning. Longwood Gardens, arguably the crown jewel of the Brandywine Valley, is 1,100 acres of dazzling floral displays that push the limits of horticultural design. Whether it’s peak spring bloom season or a quieter time of year, Longwood isn’t just any old garden, it’s a completely immersive experience. Get up close and personal with their collection of rare bonsai or play hide-and-seek in the Topiary Garden. If you’re traveling with little ones, they’ll love the Indoor Children’s Garden, a whimsical space where they can splash in kid-sized fountains and get lost in draping vines.

On your way back into town, make a casual but essential stop at Taqueria Guadalajara Express. Trade manicured gardens for something a little more grounded and authentic: simple, flavor-packed tacos that locals swear by, ordered at the counter and enjoyed al fresco or on the go. It’s one of the few spots in Kennett where you can get a traditional quesabirria taco, though the steak and chorizo tacos are just as mouthwatering.

Spend the afternoon browsing State Street again, this time ducking into the places that caught your eye yesterday. If you have a sweet tooth, stop into Mrs. Robinson’s Tea Shop. In addition to the beautiful teapots and bags of looseleaf tea you’d expect, this town staple also stocks hard-to-find retro candy and unique imported treats.

As your day in Kennett Square winds down, head to The Creamery of Kennett Square. It’s a beer garden and social hub where you can stretch your legs and enjoy one another’s company. Think string lights, rotating food trucks during the warmer months, live music on most weekends throughout the year, and an easygoing energy that feels like summer, even when it’s not.

Day 3: Slow down your Sunday to stretch out the weekend

Begin the last full day of your trip to Kennett Square with a leisurely sit-down breakfast at Mary Pat’s Provisions. Tucked inside The Market at Liberty Place, a bustling food hall in the heart of town, it’s beloved by locals for its scratch-made breakfasts and comforting flavors. We think they have the best breakfast sandwich in town, and our favorites are the roasted shroom and the caramelized bacon. Locals also love the acai bowl and the avocado toast!

With a full belly, make the short drive to the Brandywine Museum of Art in Chadds Ford. Whether you’re an art aficionado or simply a curious admirer, the Brandywine Museum of Art offers something to delight every kind of visitor. While it’s internationally celebrated for its remarkable collection of works by the Wyeth family, the experience extends well beyond the gallery walls. Set on 15 scenic acres, the museum invites you to wander through native plant gardens and peaceful greenways, where the landscape feels just as artful as the pieces inside.

When you head back to Kennett, pop into Cafe Emis on State Street for one of their delicious sandwiches, wraps, or gyros and eat them picnic-style at Anson B. Nixon Park. After a more structured morning, you can let the park's winding paths, open green space, and zen vibes be your guide for the afternoon. Or if you’re looking to get in a workout, bring along your pickleball equipment and hit the courts.

For your final dinner in Kennett Square, reserve a table at Sweet Amelia’s. It’s a charming spot that serves elevated, inventive plates in an inviting setting. It’s the type of restaurant where you will linger over your meal, and toast to a wonderful Kennett Square trip. If the weather’s nice, snag an outdoor table to enjoy the view of the street and the feeling of town life. The small plates shine at Sweet Amelia’s, especially the chicken skin tea sandwiches. You won’t regret ordering them!

Day 4: Hit the road on Monday (with a plan to come back soon!)

It may be your last morning in Kennett Square, but that doesn’t mean the fun is over. We recommend waking up with the sunrise for a quiet walk along the Kennett Greenway. In the early morning light, the town feels softer, like you’re seeing a side of it most visitors miss.

Before heading for home, fuel up at Philter with a cup of joe to-go. It’s a simple ending to an experience-packed trip, but one that rounds out your weekend in Kennett Square perfectly.
